A synthesis of TiO2-chitosan composite has been carried out by the sol-gel method using a variety of acetic acid concentrations (2 – 5 %) . The composition of chitosan on TiO2 was found to be 10 untill 50 %. The role of chitosan was as a dopant hybridized to the TiO2 through its hydroxyl and amine groups. Composite of TiO2-Chitosan obtained was characterized with Fourier Transform Infra Red (FTIR), Thermal Gravimetry Analysis (TGA), X-Ray Difraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and Energy Dispersive X-Ray (EDX). FTIR analysis showed an absorption of O-Ti-O in a fingerprint area of 677-684 cm-1. TGA measurement confirm a mass reduction at 300 oC of the composite by 57 %. XRD pattern indicated that TiO2-Chitosan compound was amorphous. From SEM photoghraphs can be seen that the composite possed porous and hollow structure. Meanwhile, from EDX calculation can be concluded that such composite containing 5 % of acetic acid and 20 % of chitosan showed highly dopant substituted TiO2.
